A good-looking website isn’t the same as a website that brings in work. For a service business, the job of the site is simple: turn a visitor into a call, a booking or a message. These are the things that make the biggest difference.
1. Say what you do, and where, in the first screen
Visitors decide in seconds whether they’re in the right place. The top of the page should say clearly what you do, who you do it for and the area you serve, with a button to call or book right there.
2. Make calling and booking one tap on a phone
Many of your visitors are on their phones. A tap-to-call button, a short form and an online booking option should be easy to reach without scrolling or zooming.
3. Load fast
A slow site loses people before they see anything. Compress images, avoid heavy add-ons and test your site with Google’s free PageSpeed Insights.
4. Show proof
Real reviews, photos of your actual work, before-and-after shots and any genuine certifications build trust quickly. Avoid stock photos where real ones would do.
5. One clear next step on every page
Every page should end with the same obvious action, such as “Book a free estimate” or “Call now”. Too many choices means fewer people take any of them.
6. Connect it to your follow-up
A website that sends enquiries to an inbox nobody checks still loses work. Forms should feed your CRM, trigger an instant reply and show up in your pipeline so someone follows up fast.
7. Help Google find you
Clear page titles and descriptions, a page for each main service, a sitemap and a connected Google Search Console account all help the right people find you.
A quick self-check
- Open your site on your phone. Can you call or book within one tap?
- Does the first screen say what you do and where?
- Do you show real reviews or real work?
- When someone fills in the form, do they get an instant reply?
If any answer is no, that’s where to start. Building sites like this is what our websites and funnels service does.
